The Zotero Connector is a browser extension that allows you to save any source from your browser with one click. It will also try to add a PDF of a source if available and can add a screenshot of web sources.
The Zotero Connector is available for Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firebox. For most browsers, you click the link from the Zotero download page to install them. The Safari Connector is downloaded with the Zotero desktop app and needs to be turned on in Safari.
Zotero Connector does not work in mobile versions of browsers.
Save to Desktop App
- Open the desktop app if you have not already.
- On the page for the source you want to save, click the "Save to Zotero" icon. The icon will change shape depending on the type of source (ex. a sheet of paper for an academic journal, a book for a book).
- A box will pop up indicating the source is saving. The citation will save to your library.
- You can select the drop-down menu in the box to select a collection to save the citation to.
- The box will also inform you if a PDF was successfully saved and if it took a screenshot of the page.
- Go to the citation in your library and check to ensure the citation information is correct. Edit the citation as needed.
Save to Web Library
- Sign into the web library.
- On the page for the source you want to save, click the "Save to Zotero" icon. The icon will change shape depending on the type of source (ex. a sheet of paper for an academic journal, a book for a book).
- If this is the first time you have saved to the web library, a box will open that prompts you to enable saving to the web library. Select "Enable Saving to Online Library" and then authorize the connector in the new window.
- A box will pop up indicating the source is saving. The citation will save to your library. The box will also inform you if a PDF was successfully saved and if it took a screenshot of the page.
- Go to the citation in your library and check to ensure the citation information is correct. Edit the citation as needed.
