You can place a book on hold so that it will be available for you at a library checkout desk instead of you needing you to go the shelves to get it. Holds can also be used to request that you get a book that is currently checked out after it is returned.

You will need to be in Classic Catalog to place a hold. If you found your book in EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS, the large search bar on the Libraries homepage), click the "Access Options" button and select "Show Classic Catalog record."

Button "Access options Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" with menu item "Show Classic Catalog Record" highlighted

In Classic Catalog, once you've found your book:

  1. Click the "Place a Hold" button a the top of the record for the book you want.
"Place a Hold" link in Classic Catalog highlighted
  2. Log in with your University of Memphis UUID if needed.
  3. On the Request Verification page, select which of our libraries you want to pick up your book from in the dropdown menu.
The Request Verficiation screen in Classic Catalog with the dropdown menu set to McWherter Library
  4. Then, under "Cancel if not filled by," you can optionally put a date you need the book before. Your hold will be cancelled if it is not available by that date.
  5. Click "Submit."
  6. You will receive an email when your hold is ready.
