LibKey Nomad is a browser extension that allows you to identify if scholarly articles behind a paywall are available through the University Libraries. LibKey Nomad can find articles that have a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) or PubMed Identifier (PMID)

LibKey Nomad works in Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari, Brave, and Vivaldi.

LibKey Nomad can connect you to articles in our collection through:

Installing and Using LibKey Nomad

Screenshots demonstrating the steps are available under the "Links & Files" heading.

  1. Go to the LibKey Nomad website.
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the web browser you are using.
  3. Install the browser extension for free through your browser's extension store. You may need to accept some permissions.
  4. After installing the extension, search for and select "University of Memphis" from the "Select Organization" search. It will say "Library Selection Saved" when you are done.
  5. A button that says "Provided by University of Memphis" will appear on any page that can use LibKey Nomad. You can change where the button appears in the extension's settings.
  6. A button will appear next to articles with a DOI or PMID. When articles are available, the button will say "Article Link" or "Download PDF." Otherwise, the button will say "Access Options" and link you to an Interlibrary Loan request form.

LibKey Nomad in Google Scholar

LibKey Nomad works differently in Google Scholar than elsewhere. The "Provided by University of Memphis" button will not appear, and the buttons for accessing the articles will not appear next to the citations. However, LibKey Nomad will connect Google Scholar to our collection.

  • When an article is available in the University Libraries collections, a link to the right of the citation will appear that says "Check for full text."
  • If an article is not available, you can access Interlibrary Loan by clicking the two arrows button that is labeled "More" that is below the citation. Then, click the "See more here" link that will appear.
