The database Serials Directory will allow you to find the full title by searching for the abbreviated title.

  1. Enter your abbreviation in the search bar. Put quotations around it for the most accurate results.
  2. Change the field after the search bar to "Title."
In Serials Directory, the first search bar has "J. phys. chem." entered in quotations. The menu button following it is set to "Title."
  3. Click search to bring up the results.
  4. If there is more than one result, click the title of each to bring up the record and check the field that says "Abbreviated title" to confirm.
Record in Serials Directory for the "Journal of Physical Chemistry." In the record list, the "Abbreviated Title" section is marked, showing "J. phys. chem." like in the search
